Indy 500 Champ Dan Weldon on Confidence

For many racers, confidence is like a fly on the wall, it is
there one minute and gone the next. The best racers in the
world do not ride the confidence roller coaster. They maintain
a more stable level of confidence ? not letting one little error
derail their focus and belief.

So how do you harness confidence and make it stick lap after lap?
Racers get confidence from many sources: past experience, training,
equipment, watching others, and believing in their ability.

When a racer experiences success, they get momentum. Momentum
breeds confidence! Recently, I talked with Indy 500 Champ Dan
Wheldon on his mindset and the importance of confidence for racers.

?When your confidence is high you make somewhat braver decisions
that often pay of. Obviously you need to have the confidence to
make those decisions and if your not confident obviously your not
able to make them.?
~Dan Wheldon, Indy 500 Champion

In my interview with Wheldon, he talked a ton about the importance
of self-belief and self-confidence, which he defined in different
ways. But the main idea is that you need to harness the power of
confidence to race at the limit and make confident decisions.

Some racers naturally develop confidence with success, but not
everyone is blessed with talent or the best equipment. Most racers
have to work at their confidence, just like they work at their
driving skills.

And this is where my expertise in mental coaching comes in handy
? to help you harness the power of confidence. If you want to start
working on your confidence right away, I suggest you get on over
